Stories of Your Life and OthersStories of Your Life and Others by Ted Chiang
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

I didn’t really remember why collection appeared on my to-read list, until after reading it I stumbled across the trailer for the film Arrival. By the end of watching it, I was ecstatic. Which really is all down to the story within this collection and the joy of seeing it transplanted to the big screen. Which also made it click: months ago I added this to the list as I wanted to read the story before watching the film.

Stories of Your Life and Others is a beautiful extrapolation of ideas and concepts all at different levels of scientific understanding. Some may make you smile with a certain smugness and confirmed anticipation, others make you choke up or pull on some other emotional string.

Whatever the stories generate emotionally, they always leaves you pleasantly enriched, drift away in thought on a multitude on “what if” scenarios and sometimes a better understanding and appreciation of scientific topics. I was kind of sad when it ended and would have loved many, many more stories added to this collection. As it is, I’ll just appreciate what’s there and will happily recommend adding this collection to your own to-read list. Now to buy some film tickets.
