At one point during TCOS development we created the Discipline Masters, a set of the Enclave’s greatest heroes and prime examples of what to expect from the Disciplines, our class system. While they were put in the game, they never got the attention I wanted them to have, nor were all assets used. I envisioned them as a band of contemporary heroes the players could fight alongside to in specific scenes.

Marlon Kromodikoro, Dennis Zoetebier and yours truly created a bio for each of the Discipline Masters and this series is meant to showcase each of them. The game itself only contained minor bits and pieces.

History

Isarah Nenuse grew up in the Palace of Quarterstone. Her ‘father’ Enclave Delegate Zildis Nenuse is curiously enough a human, yet Isarah is daevi. As a child this caused her to be ridiculed by the other children and Isarah became a quite nervous and solitary child. Searching for a role model to look up to, the Veridan proved to be a bit too close at hand. Ten years after the end of Tykaru’s Tyranny had turned the Veridan from rogue fanatics into a trusted society of the Oracle’s keepers.

It proved an irresistible proposition for Isarah to once become one of the Veridan and show everybody what she was really made of. In 964 AC the Veridan began actively drafting for more people to join the order and it was no surprise that Isarah leapt at the opportunity. In fact, most of the Veridan at the Palace were surprised it had taken her so long to join.

Amongst the Veridan she finally found her home, being accepted by everyone and generally making good progress both socially and in her newfound role as a Void Seer. Her solitude and strong thinking had turned her mind into a powerful tool and she surprised everyone as she didn’t require the mental training usually associated with the class. At 26 she entered the Oracle’s Own, but did so in a supportive role as she was deemed to important to stay at any one place. As such she travelled the Shards helping out Veridan wherever she could.

In 984 she was at Ringfell and felt that something was amiss at the Green District. Ten years later while at Mayfair’s Halo she would drop to the ground screaming as the Arcane Surge tore through the Green District. Her mind so finely tuned that she could tap into more than she probably bargained for. As the Enclave was forming Hawk’s Eye Academy, Isarah Nenuse promptly appeared in Hawksmouth. To her it was crystal clear she was going to the Master Void Seer as she felt her help was needed for this new endeavour.

Personality

Isarah is a very shy and introvert person, yet she knows when she can help people and does so while enjoying every moment of it. Her ability as a Void Seer can intervene with this personality, by feeding her feelings and emotions from ‘great disturbances’ within Enclave society. While she can cope with this, it does make her come across as rather fragile, especially when her shy attitude is taken into account.

Isarah was meant to be a second Evhiel Muaun; she was to be a finely attuned Veridan linking the Enclave more directly to the Oracle. Her daevi-raised-by-a-human background was invoked to point towards the lingering racial discirimination slumbering within the Enclave. As Sven Ehrentraut pointed out many times, the world that was created during the start of development was a rather peaceful and quiet one and we needed to blow up the small annoyances already present.

Marlon made quite a suit of armour for Isarah, this kind of clashed with her shy personality, but at the same time made for a great ‘outer shell’ she had created around her. Marlon always regarded the Veridan warriors as a kind of Jedis from Star Wars and while I don’t really agree with it (they are more rooted in religion than something akin to the Force), it did allow for a great direction for the concept art.
